bodies or mounted equipment shall be as represented in the body and equipment manufacturer's
technical data. Technical data shall be limited to specifications and technical material, identical
to that furnished to the authorized company representatives for selection of vehicle models and
components, and shall be on file in the engineering offices of the procuring activity, prior to
delivery of the items.
3.1.1 Special requirements. In addition to the standard vehicle and components specified
in 3.1, the vehicle shall be furnished with special equipment as specified herein.

3.1.1.1 Painting and marking. As specified by the procuring activity for the appropriate
service (see 6.2), treatment, painting, identification marking, and data plates shall be in
accordance with MIL-STD-1223, except the vehicle exterior color shall be gloss white matching
color chip No. 17875 of FED. STD. No. 595 and additional markings identifying the vehicle as
an ambulance shall be furnished as follows:
(1) The word "AMBULANCE" in reflective color black shall be applied as follows
using marking material specified in MIL-STD-1223:
(a) Front: 1-1/2 inch high letters, centered below windshield.
(b) Sides: 3-inch high letters, centered under cross and below red stripe.
(c) Rear: 3-inch high letters, centered across the rear on the lift platform below the
red stripe.
(2) A red belt strip shall be painted completely around the coach body below the main
windows, and also around the exterior side of the lift platform in its travel position.
(3) Four red crosses shall be painted: one on the top of the coach at the vehicle
mid-section; one on each side of the coach at the mid-section located above the main
windows; and one on the upper portion, exterior side of the lift platform in its travel
position. Crosses shall be as large as practicable within the limitations of the vehicle
configuration.
(4) A 3-inch red cross shall be painted on the vehicle front to the right and left and on the
same plane as the word "AMBULANCE."
(5) The belt strip and crosses shall be gloss red matching color chip No. 11136 of
FED. STD. No. 595.
(6) The crosses shall be on a square background of reflectorized silver material
conforming to type I, Class 3, reflectivity 1 of L-S-300.
