characteristics.  Unless otherwise specified, all parts and subassemblies
herein referred to are listed on NAVORD Drawings 877137 and 877138.
3.4.1 Characteristics common to both the series contactor (NAVORD Draw-
ing 877137) and the paralleling contactor (NAVORD Drawing 877138):
3.4.1.1 Pick-up.  The contractors shall pick-up when a maximum of 10
volts dc is applied to the coil (NAVORD Drawing 815178).
3.4.1.2 Seal-in.  The contractors shall seal-in so that the armature
(NAVORD Drawing 1154934 for the series contactor, or 865968 for the paral-
leling contactor) is tight against the pole piece (NAVORD Drawing 865924)
at an applied voltage between 12 and 17 volts dc.
3.4.1.3 mop-out.  The contractors shall drop-out against their stops
at a voltage not less than 2.25 volts dc.
3.4.1.4 Rated coil voltage. With 24 1 volts dc applied to the coil
terminals, the contractors shall close with a fast snappy action, free
from sticking, binding, or slow moving armature assembly.
3.4.1.5 Coil (NAVORD Drawing 815178)
3.4.1.5.1 The coil shall have 1400 14 turns of number 24 enameled
aluminum wire (two conductors in parallel), and the coil shall be free
from short-circuited turns.
3.4.1.5.2 The coil shall have a dc resistance of 13 1 ohms at 25 de-
grees centigrade (C) (77 degrees Fahrenheit (F)).
3.4.1.5.3  The coil shall be vacuum impregnated and coated with varnish
MIL-I-24092, Class 105, Type M.  The outside of the coil, and other in-
sulated parts, shall be treated with one coat of fungicidal varnish con-
forming to MIL-V-173, as set forth on NAVORD Drawing 815178.
3.4.1.5.4  When mounted in the contactor, the temperature rise of the
coil shall not exceed 55C in 30 3 minutes of operation, with 24 1
volt dc applied to the coil terminals.
3.4.1.6 Contacts
3.4.1.6.1  The contact hinge assembly (NAVORD Drawing 865918) shall be
free from binding or drag.
3.4.1.6.2 Upon application of voltage to the coil., or hand pressure to
the armature, the contacts shall close so that:
