PACKAGING
5.
(The packaging requirements specified herein apply only for direct Govern-
ment acquisition.  For the extent of applicability of the packaging requirements
of referenced documents listed in section 2, see 6.3.)
Preservation shall be level A, C, or commercial as specif-
5.1 Preservation.

5.1.1 Level A.  Each cartridge shall be preserved and unit packed in accor-
dance with method IC of MIL-P-116.  Twenty-five unit packs shall be placed in a
fiberboard box in accordance with PPP-B-636, type SF, class weather-resistant,
grade W5S, style RSC.  Box closure shall be in accordance with method V of the
appendix to PPP-B-636.
5.1.2 Level C.  Twenty-five cartridges shall be preserved in accordance
with method III of MIL-P-116 and packed in fiberboard boxes in accordance with
PPP-B-636, class domestic with type, style and grade at the contractors option.
BOX closure shall be in accordance with method I of the appendix to the box
specification.

5.2.1  Level B.  Cartridges, packed as specified in 5.1 shall be packed in
containers conforming to PPP-B-640, class 2.  All center and edge seams and
manufacturer  s joints are to be scaled and waterproofed with pressure-sensitive
tape in accordance with the applicable fiber box specification.  Shipping con-
tainers shall be closed, strapped, or banded in accordance with the applicable
box specification or appendix thereto.  The gross weight shall not exceed the
weight limitations of the box specification.
5.2.2 Level C.  Cartridges,  packed as specified in 5.1 shall be packed in
containers conforming to PPP-B-640, class 1.  Shipping containers shall be closed
in accordance with applicable box specification or appendix thereto.  The gross
weight shall not exceed the weight limitations of the box specification.
5.2.3 Commercial.  Cartridges packed as specified in 5.1 shall be in
accordance with ASTM D 3951.
5.3 Marking.  In addition to any special marking requirements, interior and
exterior shipping containers shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129 and
shall include hazardous marking as applicable.
