3.1.2 Military Design. The size 9 military design (MD) trailer chassis shall be in accordance
with Top Assembly, TA13212E3630, except where indicated herein and on the specification
sheet for size 9 (see MIL-C-52437/6). Unless otherwise specified herein the trailer chassis shall
be equipped with Dash -1 springs. When specified (see 6.2, T-2) furnish Dash -2 through
Dash -6 springs for lighter equipment.
3.1.2.1 MD drawings. The drawings for the MD trailer chassis forming a part of this
specification are end product drawings. No deviation from the prescribed dimensions or
tolerances is permissible without prior approval of the contracting officer. Any data (e.g., shop
drawings, layouts, flow sheets, processing procedures, etc.) prepared by the contractor or
obtained from a vendor to support fabrication and manufacture of the production item shall be
made available, upon request, for inspection by the contracting officer or his designated
representative.
3.1.3 Weights and dimensions. The trailer chassis shall be in accordance with table I of each
applicable specification sheet and as summarized on the following table I, herein. The curb
weight of the trailer chassis shall include the weight of the chassis complete with all accessories
and components. The gross vehicle weight ratings (GWR), in accordance with
DOT 49 CFR 567 and TTMA RP No. 39 (for highway speeds), shall be the curb weight of the
chassis plus the weight of the payloads (equipment or component and body). Established
components and vehicular ratings shall not be raised to conform to this specification. The
physical characteristics of the trailer chassis shall be as specified in table I of the applicable
specification sheets, when the trailers are on level surface, when the inflation of the tires are as
recommended by the Tire and Rim Association for GVWR operation at highway speeds, and
when the suspension systems are in the normal height position. When and as specified
(see 6.2, T-3), the optional running gear and suspension shall be furnished as specified.
3.1.4 Standard commercial product. The CCE trailer chassis shall, as a minimum, be in
accordance with the requirements of this specification and shall be in the line of the
manufacturer's standard commercial product with any added features needed to comply with the
requirements. Additional or better features which are not specifically prohibited by this
specification but which are a part of the manufacturer's standard commercial product shall be
included in the machine being furnished. Standard commercial product is a product which has
been sold or is being currently offered for sale on the commercial market through advertisements
of manufacturer's catalogs, or brochures, and represents the latest production model. The
capacities and rating of the chassis and any of its components shall not be raised to comply with
this specification. The equipment shall be designed and constructed to facilitate field
maintenance. All equipment of the same classification, furnished under a specific contract shall
be physically and functionally identical. Parts, accessories, assemblies, and components are
included in this requirement. Written approval for deviations shall be obtained in advance from
the contracting officer.
3.2 First article. The contractor shall furnish a trailer chassis for examination and test within
the time frame specified (see 6.2) to prove that his production methods and choice of design
