MIL-D-20505D (AR)
contents shall be placed in a drying oven at 110 5 Centigrade
(C) for one hour, cooled in a desiccator and weighed.  The
Percentage of moisture in the sample shall be calculated as follows:
Percentage of Moisture =
where:
A = Loss in weight of moisture dish and contents.
w = Weight of sample, g.
4.5.1.2  Paper, paper products and carton packing material.
Determine moisture content in accordance with Method 102.1 of
Standard MIL-STD-1234 except that a ten (10) gram sample shall be
used and the drying time shall be two (2) hours.
4.5.1.3  Moisture content of complete assembly.  The complete
assembly shall be accurately weighed.  After weighing, the assembly
shall be placed in a drying oven at 100 5C for three (3) hours,
cooled in a desiccator and reweighed.  The percentage of moisture in
the assembly shall be calculated as follows:
Percentage of Moisture =

A = Loss in weight of assembly, g.
w = Weight of sample, go

4.5.2.1 Sulfur.  The sample from the moisture determination
shall be quantitatively transferred to a 250 milliliter (mL.)
beaker, with the aid of 50 mL. of carbon disulfide.  The solvent
mixture shall be boiled and decanted through a tared filtering
crucible leaving as much residue as possible in the beaker.  The
extraction shall be repeated twice, using 50 mL. of fresh solvent
each time.  On the third extraction, the residue shall be
quantitatively transferred to the filtering crucible.  Suction shall
be applied for 15 minutes at 60C 5 then cooled in a
desiccator and weighed.  The loss in weight shall be calculated as
the percentage of sulfur in the sample.
4.5.2.2  Potassium perchlorate.  The residue in the crucible
from the sulfur determination shall be extracted with 100 mL. of
boiling distilled water in small 20 mL. portions.  The water shall
stand in the crucible for approximately one minute before applying
suction.  The extraction shall be repeated until the filtrate shows
no trace of perchlorates.  Test for complete extraction of potassium
perchlorate shall be accomplished by treating a few drops of the
