MIL-D-435F(ME)
4.5.2.10.3 Failure criteria. A volume of asphalt cement of less than 350 gallons discharged
into the container during this 60-second period shall constitute failure of this test. Inability of the
distributor to perform any of the above specified operations shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.11 Performance. Operate the distributor using high-viscosity fuel oil for a run-in
period of not less than 60 minutes. When a diesel engine is furnished, this test shall be
performed using the diesel fuel specified in 3.5.3. Check the distributor for leaks, demonstrate
operation of all controls, and make necessary adjustment prior to shipment. Any leak, inability
of any control to operate as required, or malfunction of any component that is not corrected by
adjustment shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.12 Noise level test. Noise levels shall be measured in accordance with MIL-STD-1474
requirements and reported in the format indicated by MIL-STD-1474, figure 7. As a minimum:
noise levels shall be measured when equipment is operating under full load, MIL-STD-1474,
5.1.2.1.4 contours shall be taken at not fewer than 12 equal (horizontal) ARC increments,
one increment shall include data from the noisiest position. Additionally, the noise level at the
typical operating position shall be provided as dB(A) level. Exterior noise levels for drive-by
shall not exceed 88dB(A) when tested in accordance with SAE J88. Failure to comply with
MIL-STD-1474 provisions shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.12.1 Failure criteria. Failure to reduce the noise level or provide documentation
verifying that compliance is either technically or economically unfeasible shall constitute failure
of this test.
4.5.2.13 Human factors engineering inspection. The distributor shall be inspected for
conformance with 3.24 requirements. Failure to comply shall constitute failure of this
inspection.
4.5.2.14 Electromagnetic interference. When specified (see 6.2), the distributor shall be
tested in accordance with SAE J55l. A report tabulating the allowable maximum interference
and the measured interference shall be furnished with the first article test reports.
4.5.2.14.1 Failure criteria. Failure to meet the requirements of SAE J551, shall constitute
failure of this test.
4.5.2.15 Quality conformance operational run-in. Each distributor shall be serviced as
required and shall be run-in in accordance with the manufacturer's normal procedures for a
period of not less than 30 minutes.
4.5.2.15.1 Failure criteria. One or more functional defects shall constitute failure, and
acceptance of the equipment shall not be approved until all defects are corrected.
