MIL-D-52916A(ME)
consist of one U-bolt, or two twin studs, with tie plates and nuts and washers as required.
Hardwood filler blocks shall be placed in chassis sill channels at each mounting point. Each
filler block shall be retained in the channel by the use of keeper straps or by use of grooves
around mounting bolt or stud. A hardwood breaker strip shall be installed between the
longitudinal distributor sills and longitudinal chassis sills, and shall run the full length of the
chassis sills. Additional mounting devices of a type required to restrict traverse and longitudinal
movement between distributor and chassis shall be installed. The truck chassis frame shall not
be welded to or extended. The distributor shall be mounted without drilling holes in the chassis,
unless prior approval is obtained from the contracting officer. The alignment between the truck
chassis and distributor shall be maintained, and the mounting devices shall not be permanently
deformed or broken when the fully loaded truck mounted distributor is subjected to travel over
paved and gravel roads and subjected to sudden stops when traveling at forward speeds up to
10 mph (16 kmph) and at maximum, high-range reverse speeds. When unmounted distributors
are furnished (see 6.2), all components required for mounting and an illustrated step-by-step
mounting procedure shall be supplied with each distributor.
3.15 Transportability. The distributor shall be capable of being transported by military or
commercial trailers, trains, vessels, aircrafts and of withstand the impact forces encountered in
shipment without damage or permanent deformation. The distributor shall be equipped with
tiedown and slinging provisions.
3.15.1 Tiedown provisions. The tiedown provisions shall be in accordance with
MIL-STD-209, for type III equipment, class 3 provisions and MIL-STD-1791, for equipment
restraint criteria. The tie down provisions shall satisfactorily complete the pull testing as
specified without weld failure, permanent deformation, cracking, loosening, or breaking of the
provision or its connecting structural components.
3.15.2 Slinging provisions. The slinging provisions shall be in accordance with
MIL-STD-209, class 3, type III. The provisions shall enable the complete distributor to be lifted
in the normal operating position. The provisions shall be located so not less than 1-inch
clearance is maintained between slings and all exterior parts and shall be fastened to members
which will withstand stresses in the amount and direction of pull specified for the provisions
without weld failure, permanent deformation, cracking, loosening, or breaking of the provision
or its connecting structural components. Slinging provisions may also be used as tiedown
provisions when such provisions meet the requirements specified in 3.15.1. All slinging/tiedown
provisions shall be labeled "LIFT", "TIEDOWN", or "LIFT TIEDOWN", as appropriate, in
1-inch high (2.54 cm) letters.
3.15.3 Air transportability. Disassembly to achieve air transportable configuration shall be
accomplished in not more than 2 hours, and reassembly shall be accomplished in not more than
2 hours, using only 2 people and common tools and lifting devices available in the military unit.
The distributors shall meet the requirements of MIL-STD-1791 for air transport.
