MIL-D-52987A(ME)
e. Provide two lengths of suction hose, for self loading, each length 15-feet long; provide male
and female couplings of the cam-lock type on the hose and the tank; provide a strainer and foot
valve for the hose; provide hose tubes for securely stowing the hose on the tank; provide each
open end of the hose stowage tube with a latching metal protective cap to prevent entry of dirt
and water; provide cap with hinges or captive chains to prevent loss of caps. Hoses shall be
not more than 12 months old from date of cure of the rubber to date of acceptance by the
Government.
3.14 Water distribution system. The water distribution system shall be by pressurized nozzles. The
distribution system shall route water from the pump outlet to a rear mounted transverse pipe feeding four
adjustable, non-ferrous fan spray nozzles. Each nozzle shall be independently compressed air remote
controlled from the tractor operator's compartment having air pressure open and spring close features.
Each nozzle shall be horizontally adjustable 180 degrees using common hand tools and provide coverage
from a 15-foot swath to not less than a 30-foot swath. The width of nozzle spray shall be manually
adjustable at the nozzle. The maximum operation of all four nozzles shall provide a width coverage of not
less than a 65-foot swath.
3.3.5 Hydraulic system. The distributor shall be equipped with a hydraulic system which shall provide
sufficient force for operating all attachments and related components.
3.16 Electrical system. The distributor shall be equipped with a 24-volt (6 TL battery) electrical
system. The electrical circuitry, including all components and connections, except as specified below, shall
be protected from the effects of fungus growth and moisture by an overall treatment with a varnish
conforming to MIL-V-173, composition I with 1-percent copper 8-quinolinolate (by weight) or 7-percent
salicylanilide based on the nonvolatile content of varnish:
a. Components or circuit elements that are inherently fungus and moisture resistant or which are
hermetically sealed need not be treated.
b. Components or circuit elements whose functions will be adversely affected by the varnish
coating shall not be treated.
When used, the varnish shall be applied by spray, brush, or a combination of both, to give a minimum,
dry-film thickness of 1-mil to component or element surfaces. These surfaces shall be previously cleaned
and prepared so that they are free from all foreign matter that would interfere with the adherence or
function of the varnish.
3.16.1 Alternator. The rated output of the alternator shall be not less than 35 amps.
3.16.2 Lighting. The following lights with associated circuits, circuit breakers, or other protective
devices and switches shall be provided:
a.
Two headlights.
b.
Two front working light.
c.
Combination stop and taillights.
d.
Turn signals and emergency flashers.
e.
Instrument panel lighting.
f. Rear floodlights(s).
