A. APPLICATION SPECIFICATIONS
A-1. The following specifications,  of the issue in effect
of invitation for bids, form  a part of this specification
U. S. Army Specifications:
No. 51-7. Instruments, Fire Control: Gerneral Specification
Governing the Manufacture and Inspeciton
of.
No. 51-70-2. Optical Components for Fire Control hstru-
mcnts; General Specification Governing the
Manufacture, Assembly and Inspecion  of.
A-2 Applicable drawings furnished by the contracting officer in
connection with the cpmtract, form a part of this specification.
B.
Types
B-1 This specification cowers finished ray filters and the adored
glass blanks and plates therefor.
B-1a. Colored glass.-Finished ray filters blanks and plates
shall be made of colored glass of optical quality of the following
types, as specified in l the contract and/or drawings.
Type I, Amber.
Type II, Blue
Type III, Red
Type IV, Neutral.
B-2 The glass shall be furnished as finished ray filters or un-
finished ray filters in the form of flat plates or formed blanks, as
specified by the contract and/or drawings.
C.  Material  AND  WORKMANSHIP
C-1. Material and workmanship shall be in accordance with the
drawings, and applicable specifications.
D.
Gerneral  Requirements
D-I. Unless otherwise specified herein all applicable require-
ments and associated teats as  specified in U. S. Army Specification
No.  51-70-2, Optical Components for Fire Cotrol lnstruments;
General Specification Governing the Manufacture Assembly and
Inspection of, shall apply.
D-2 Plates
D-2a. Dimensions.- Unless otherwise specified, plates shall be
square Or rectangular, with sides not less than 2 inches long. In
rectangular plates the length of the low side shall not be greater
than three times the length of the short side
D-2b. Limiting sizes of defects.- The total projected area of all
bubbles and seed on a polished surface, when examined visually
shall not exceed O.1 percent of the surface per 10 centimeters,(3.94
inches) of  light path and the total number  of bubbles and seeds
