MIL-H-3771C
4.5.4.5 Heat output.  In ambient temperature and on fuel specified in
3.8.1, apply procedure or 4.5.4.4 except add measurement and recording
of coolant flow and temperatures of coolant at inlet and outlet of
heater.  Nonconformance to 3.8.1, 3.8.4, and 3.8.4.1 sahll constitute
failure of this test.
4.5.4.5.1 Calculation of heat output.
Determine output of the heater
by the following formula:
where:
measured output, Btu/hr.
flow rate of antifreeze solution, lb/hr.
specific heat of antifreeze solution.
temperature of antifreeze solution entering heater, F.
temperature of antifreeze solution leaving heaters F.
4.5.4.6 Automatic functioning.  Determine conformance to 3.8.4.2 by
tests in the low ambient temperatures and on the fuels specified in 4.5.1,
and in accordance with the following procedures.
4.5.4.6.1 Purge and cut off after exhaustion of fuel supply. Start the
heater and operate until stable combustion is attained.  Cut off fuel
supply by valving-off or by disconnecting power from fuel pump.  Inab ility
to purge and cut off all other functions within 4 minutes shall constitute
failure of this test.
4.5.4.6.2  Cutoff air inlet-air blockage.  Reset, start heater and
operate until stable combustion is attained.  Block air inlet.  Inability
of the blower and coolant pump to continue to run but to cut off within
4 minutes shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.4.6.3 Cycling control.  With heater in normal operation, control
temperature of coolant entering the heater so that it rises gradually until
automatic cutoff and purge occurs.  Permit the heater and its coolant to
cool down until it automatically restarts.  Observe several cycles and
record.  Inability to Start or stop automatically and consistently Within
the temperature specified in 3.8.4.2(c) shall constitute failure of this
test.
