4.3 First article inspection.
4.3.1 Examination.  The first article pile-driver lead assembly and catwalk
sections shall be examined as specified in 4.5.1.  Presence of one or more
..
defects shall be cause for rejection.
4.3.2 Test.  The first article pile-driver lead assembly and catwalk sections
shall be tested as specified in 4.5.2.  Failure of this test shall be cause for
rejection.
4.4  Quality conformance inspection.  Each pile-driver lead section and catwalk
section shall be examined as specified in 4.5.1,  Presence of one or more
defects shall be cause for rejection.
4.5 Inspection procedure.
4.5.1 Examination.  The pile-driver lead top sections, lower sections,
adapter plates, and catwalk sections shall be examined for the following defects:
Dimension not as specified.
101.
Size or location of holes not as specified.
102.
Identification marking missing, illegible, or incorrect
103.
Treatment and painting not as specified.
104.
Color not as specified.
105.
Materials not as specified.
106.
Materials not resistant to corrosion and deterioration, or treated to
107.
be resistant to corrosion and deterioration for the applicable stroage
and operating environments.
Dissimilar metals as defined in MIL-STD-889 are not effectively
108.
insulated from each other.
Contractor does not have documentation available for identification of
109.
material, material finishes, or treatment.
Used, rebuilt or remanufactured components, pieces, or parts
110.
incorporated in the pile-driver leads, adapter plates or catwalk
assembly.
Members containing rust, cracks, kinks, Or sharp bends.
111.
Workmanship on sections or assemblies not as specified.
112.
Parts and components missing or not as specified.
113.
Safety requirements not met as specified.

4.5.2  Test.  The components for a 55-foot pile-driving lead and catwalk assem-
bly shall be assembled, erected, and attached to a crane boom, simulating the
required procedure of setting up for actual pile-driving operations.  After
erection of the pile-driving leads and catwalk assembly, the unit shall be
checked for cash of assembly, alinement, and fit.  Interference of mating
members, improper fit at joints, or nonconformance to 3.12 shall constitute
failure of this test.
