6.
6.1 Intended use.  The laundry unit is mobile for use in the field by
personnel of the Department of Defense to provide laundry service to troop
units and hospitals.  The laundry unit is designed to take water from streams,
rivers, lakes and the like by means of suction and to heat it sufficiently for
laundering purposes.  The laundry unit has a secondary function of
decontaminating personal clothing from chemical warfare and bacteriological
warfare agents and radioactive materials.
6.2 Ordering data.
Acquisition documents should specify the following:
a.  Title, number and date of this document.
b.  When a first article is required (see 3.1, 4.3, and 6.3).
c. When moisture and fungus-resistant treatment is required (see
3.5.4).
d.  Source and delivery of Government furnished property (see 3.8).
e.  Required location of 500 mile road test and rail impact test
(see 4.6.8 and 4.6.9).
f.  Selection for the applicable level of preservation and packing
(see 5.1 and 5.2).
6.3 First article.  When a first article is required, it shall be inspected
and approved under the appropriate provisions of FAR 52.209.  The first
article should be a preproduction sample.  The contracting officer should
specify the appropriate type of first article and the number of units to be
furnished.  The contracting officer should include specific instructions in
all acquisition instruments regarding arrangements for selection, inspection,
and approval of the first article.
6.4 Recycled material.  It is encouraged that recycled material be used
when practical as long as it meets the requirements of the document (see 3.3).
6.5 Sources of supply.
6.5.1 Washer.  A washer conforming to Pellerir Milnor Corp. (P.O. Box 400,
Dept. TR, Kenner, LA  70063) Model No. M 360260EW with Mitrol control unit,
air actuated valves and water recycle controls and valves has been found to
meet the requirements of 3.5.7 except the item must be modified to meet the
dimensional, and other requirements of Drawing 6-1-9944.
6.5.2 Extractor.  A extractor conforming to Bock Laundry Machine Co. (3600
Summit St, Station G, Box 5127, Toledo, OH 43611) Model No. 605 MIL has been
found to meet the requirements of 3.5.8 except the item must be modified to
meet the dimensional, and other requirements of Drawing 6-1-9945.
