40.7 Definition of failure. - Failure is considered to have occurred if any sample does not comply with
the requirements specified herein and the following
(a) Open, grounded or short circuited winding.
(b) Failure to pass normal potential test.
(c) Insulation resistance value of less than 10 megohms (corrected to 25C.) at any time during the
submergence or temperature cycling test. An insulation resistance value of not less than 100
megohms should be considered as a goal.
(d) A dissipation factor (cold) of more than 50 percent at any time during the submergence or
temperature cycling test. A dissipation factor of not more than 20 percent should be con-
sidered as a goal.
