MIL-M-50383A(MU)
3.5.1 Orientation.- The mount shall be positioned and oriented as
follows:
The mounting surface of the mount in a vertical plane
a.
(internal surface).
b.
The locating keyway horizontal.
The pitch and cross level vial bubbles shall be centered
c.
within the width of a graduation line.
d.
The locating surface for the telescope shall be horizontal
within 1.0 mil.
e.
The centerline passing through the two locating keys on
the horizontal locating surface for the telescope shall
be parallel to the vertical mounting surface of the
mount within 1.0 mil.
3.5.2 Elevation travel.- The locating keyway of the vertical mount-
ing surface shall rotate through an excursion of at least 1333 mils in
elevation and 445 mils in depression from the position established in
3.5.1.
3.5.3 Crosslevel travel (cant).- The mount shall travel through
an excursion of at least 178 mils to the left and 178 mils to the right
from the position established in 3.5.1.
3.5.4 Pitch motion.- The mount shall travel through an excursion
of at least 178 mils above and 178 mils below the position established
in 3.5.1.
3.5.5 Backlash (cant).- Backlash in the cant mechanism (3.5.3)
shall not exceed 1.5 mils at zero elevation and zero cant.
3.5.6 Backlash  (pitch).- Backlash in the pitch mechanism (3.5.4)
shall not exceed 1.5 mils at zero elevation.
3.5.7 Deviation.- A line of sight shall not deviate horizontally
from a target point by more than 0.25 mil when the mount is subjected
to the requirement of 3.5.2.
3.5.8 Plumb travel.- A line of sight shall track a plumb line
within 0.5 mil (total lateral spread) when the mount is subjected to
the requirement of 3.5.4.
3.5.9 Mount rigidity.- With the mount positioned as in 3.5.1,
apply a twenty pound tangential load at the right side of the telescope
support as shown in Figure 1.  Release the load and record the movement.
Apply the same load at the left side of the telescope support. Release
the load and record the movement. The total movement as indicated by
the two readings shall not exceed the values of Table I.
