conforming to SAE J694, having aN 11-1/4-inch bolt circle.  Valves and valve
caps shall be of domestic manufacture and shall be installed in accordance
with the TRA Yearbook.  Valve caps shall be of metal and shall be equipped
with elastomer inner seals.
3.9.6.2.4 Low-platform-trailer axle.  The axle components shall be inter-
changeable with the major assemblies shown an MS35866-DL. The maximum axle
load shall be limited tO 18,000 poundS with dual tires. The brake system

shall be of the straight-air type aS specified in 3.9.7.2. Foundation brakes
shall be not less than size 12-1/4 by 7-1/2, Commercial  wheel assemblies
and military tires shall conform to the following:

Wheel assemblies shall be malleable iron or cast steel. Wheels

shall be the 15-inch, 6-spoke type with bearing cups pressed in
place. Malleable wheels shall be SAE J432, grade 35018. Cast
steel wheels shall be SAE J435, grade 0030. Rim clamps shall be
SAE J432, grade 35018.  Studs and bolts shall be in accordance
with SAE J429, grade 5, and shall have a minimum tensile strength
of 120,000 psi.  Brake drums shall be of cast iron SAE J431,
SAE No. G 4000 or G 3500.  The demountable rims shall be 7.5 by
15 size, 5-degree, 3-piece for tube-type tires.

Tires shall be 11.00 by 15, 16-ply rating, conforming to MS535390-47.
(c)
inner tubes shall be 11.00 bY 15 conforming to MS35392-26.
3.9.6.3  Tires. Tires shall not be loaded in excess of the values speci-
fied. The tires shall be free of majar defects when inspected in accordance
with MIL-STD-1224.
3.9.7 Brake system.  The semitrailer shall be equipped with a waterproof,
internal expanding, straight airbrake system in accordance with ICC Motor
Carrier Safety Relations, sections 193.40 through 193.43 and 193.45 through
193.50, except as otherwise specified herein. The system shall include ser-
vice and emergency airbrake line couplings, service and emergency line filters,
relay emergency valve, air reservoir, cylinders or chambers, foundation brake
assemblies on each wheel, and all other plumbing and components required for
a complete, matched airbrake system  Airbrake line coulings shall conform
to MS35746 and to SAE J702, service on the curb side and emergency on the
road sides and shall be of the polarized or noninterchangeable types.  Each
coupling shall be equipped with a spring-loaded dust cover.  The couplings
shall be color coded blue for service and red for emergency.  In additions
line identiftcation tags conforming to MS53007 shall be furnished. The relay
emergency valve shall conform to MS53004, except that the wrapid bleed-down
valve  shall be replaced with a plug on the straight airbrakes. Conformance
of the relay valve to ICC regulations is mandatory.  Each air reservior shall
