3.9.9.3 Reflectors.  Reflectors shall be mounted in accordance with ICC
requirements. In addition to ICC requirements, two amber reflectors shall
be mounted on the front of the vehicle at approximately the same height as
those mounted on the sides.
3.10 Bearings,  Unless otherwise specified herein, all bearings shall be
greaseable antifriction type conforming to FF-B-171, FF-B-185, or FF-B-187,
as applicable,  Mountings of bearings shall permit split tapered sleeve and
locking nut or inner race secured to the shaft by a minimum of two set screws.
3.11 Liners.  Liner plates shall be installed in areas of all hoppers, bins,
chutes, spounts, and other metal surface areas subject to continual abrasive
wear caused by aggregate movement.  Liners shall be replaceable high-carbon
steel plates with not less than 0.35 percent carbon content. All bolt heads
subjected to the flow of material shall not extend beyond the surfaces ex-
posed to the material and shall be of hardened steel.
3.12 Drives,  All the necessary drive gears, gearboxes, shafts, univwersal
joints, clutches, bearings, and other components required to operate the
drive system as specified herein shall be provided. Unless otherwise speci-
fied herein, all drives shall be of the mechanical type.
3.12.1 Chain drives.  Chains used in drive trains shall be in accordance
with MIL-STD-421, MIL-STD-423$ Or MIL-STD-424, and shall have provisions for
adjustment.
3.12.3 Gears and gearboxes.  All gears shall be enclosed in gearboxes and
shall operate in an oil bath.  Gears shall conform to USA Standards B6.6,
3.12.4 Line shafting.  All line shafting shall be of carbon steel con-
taining not less than 0.4O percent carbon.
3.12.5 JAW clutches.  The entire mixing plant shall be provided with jaw-
type clutches tO engage and disengage components as necessary for operation
of the mixing plant in the various arrangemennt as specified in 3.1 without
shutting down an engine.  Control levers shall be provided with positive-
position locking devices. A schematic diagram of' the mixing plant indicating
location of clutches shall be provided and shall be subject to the approval
of the contracting officer.
