inner circumference which shall lift and drop the aggregate in a thin veil
through the hot gases produced by the burner. A rotary elevator or other
suitable means shall be provided at the burner end of the drum to discharge
the dried aggregate into the boot of the hot-aggregate elevator or into the
portable conveyor.  The drum shall be fitted with not less than two alloy
steel supporting tires bolted to the outer circumference.  Each tire shall
revolve on not less than two adjustable trunnions made of hardened cast
steel. Means shall be provided for controlling the longitudinal movement
of the drum along the longitudinal axis of the drum in both the uphill and
downhill direction. The drum shall be driven by a positive-drive arrangement.
If a sprocket and chain drive is employed, an adjustable, continuous oiling
system shall be provided.  All bearings used in the driving mechanism shall
be of the antifriction type.  The charging end of the dryer drum shall include
a flanged exhaust gas duct connection to which the fines collector duct shall
be attached.
3.16.3 Dryer drum feeder.  The dryer drum feeder shall be of the
reciprocating-feeder or positive-feeder chute type* Means shall be provided
to eliminate draft losses.  The feeder clute shall receive aggregate from
the cold-aggregate elevator. Aggregate shall be fed continuoualy into the
dryer drum without clogging.  All drive Mechanisms necessary for the opera-
tion of the feeder shall be provided.  The feeder assembly shall be rigidly
supported by steel framework attached to the dryer trailer chassis. The
framework shall include guides, supports, braces, and connections required
for use in conjuction with the erection of and operation with the cold-
-.

3.16.4 Dryer burner and fuel system. The dryer fuel system shall include
burner, fuel pipings fittings, valves, fuel pump, fuel meter, strainers,
preheater, preheater temperature control, relief valve, pressure gages,
thermometers, and other items which may be required to provide a complete
operating dryer fuel system.
3.16.4.1 Burner. The dryer drum burner shall be low-pressure, air-
atomizing, and oil-burning.  It shall burn number 1, 2, 3, and 4 fuel oil
without preheating, and number 5 and 6 when preheaded. The burner shall have
a capacity of not less than 300 gph. The burner shall operate in conjunction
with the fines collector blower.
3.16.4.2 Fuel piping and pipe fittings. l Fuel pipe shall conform to
WW-P-406. Pipe fittings shall be malleable iron. Unions shall `be installed
where required for disassembly of piping, valves, and accessories. Unions
shall conform to WW-U-531.  Fuel piping shall be jacketed where required
for hot-oil heating.
