3.22.4 Water-supply system. The mixer shall be provided with a separate
water-supply system for supplying water to the pugmill. The water-supply
system shall be complete with water pump, water metier, spray bass, pipe,
pipe fittings, valves, strainers, and all other components rewired to pro-
tide a complete system, when supplied with water from a separate supply tank.
3.22.4.l Water pump A single-suction, single-stage, centrifugal water
pump shall be provided for supplying water to the water spray bars. The pump
shall have a capacity of not less than 85 gallons per minute (gpm) when pumping
against a 20-foot head or against the friction head created by the installed
spray bars and piping systems whichever is greater. All necessary drives
shall be provided and shall `be installed in a location such that the drive will
be accessible for inspection, maintenance, repairs, and for removal when the
water system is not to be operated.
3.22.4.2 Water meter. A water meter of the indicating type with a capacity
of not less than 99,999 gallons in increments of not greater than 2 gallons
shall be installed in the water supply piping to the spray bars. The meter
shall be provided with an indicating dial. The indicating dial face shall
have a glass cover and a protective lid of heavy metal. The water meter shall
be equipped with a built-in strainer on the inlet side of the meter. The
water meter shall be located so that the dial will be visible and legible to
an operator on the operator's platform.
3.22.4.3 Water spray bars. Water spray bars shall consist of standard
weight black pipe with holes drilled in one side. Spray bars shall be of

such number and installed in such locations as to result in even distribution

and thorough wetting of the aggregate in the pugmill and so that the spray
can be directed to the sides of the pugmill if the material tends to build
up in that area.
3.22.4.4 Water pipe, pipe fittings, and valves. Water pipe shall be
standard weight black steel pipe, and shall extend from the mixer external
supply connector to the water pump suction and from the pump discharge to
the water spray bars. All fittings shall be standard weight malleable iron
or cast iron. Unions shall be provided for removal of the water pump, water
meter, and other equipment or piping, where required, for removal or dis-
assembly of the piping system. A Y-type strainer of the same size as the pipe
in which it is installed shall `be provided and located between the pump dis-
charge and the water meter. A cutoff valve shall be provided in the piping,
end globe-type control valves shall be provided for each bank of sprays.
3.22.5 Transfer pump. The transfere pump shall be the positive-displacement,
all-iron-body , jacketed type to pump bitumen from an external source. The
pump shall have a capacity of not less than 80 gpm at a 10-foot head when
