MIL-N-85005A(AS)
3.0 REQUIREMENTS
Preproduction - This specification makes provision for
3.1
preproduction testing.
Parts and Materials - In the selection of parts and
3.2
materials, fulfillment of major design objectives shall be the prime
consideration.  In so doing, the following shall govern:
(1) Microelectronics
(a)
The Microelectronics shall meet MIL-M-38510
class "B" or equivalent. Where MIL-M-38510
slash sheets do not exist, the contractor
specifications shall define the equivalency.
The Contractor shall provide more than one
source for microelectronics when available.
All hybrid microelectronics shall be built to
(b)
the approved contractor specifications.  The
intent of MIL-M-38510 shall be followed by the
Contractor to the maximum extent practical.
The requirements of AR-5 shall be met where
(c)
dual sources are available. When dual sources
are available, interchangeability shall be
certified by the Contractor.
(2) Semiconductor Devices
JAN TX types shall be used where required to achieve
specified reliability of the equipment.
(3) Discrete Components
Where standard MIL types satisfy all of the design
requirements, they shall be used.  Established Reliability
(ER) type passive parts shall be used where required to
achieve specified reliability of the equipment.  Non MIL
types may be used with the approval of the procuring
activity.
(4) Non-Repairable Assemblies
(a) Non-repairable subassemblies, as outlined in
Specification MIL-E-5400, shall be used when
practicable.  The general size of the sub-
assembly and the amount of circuitry to be
included therein shall be approved by the
procuring activity.
