4.7 Packageing inspection. Sample packages and packs and the inspection
of the packaging, packing, and marking for shipment and storage shall -be in
accordance with the requirements of section 5 and the documents specified
therein.
PACKAGING
5.
(The packaging requirements specified herein apply only for direct Govern-
ment acquisition.  For the extent of applicability of the packaging requirements
of referenced documents listed in section 2, see 6.6.)
5.1 Technical data. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2.1), technical
data depicting the preservation, packaging, and transportation of support data
shall be prepared by the contractor and submitted to the acquisition activity
(see 6.2.2).
5.2 Preservation, packing and marking. Pump units and accessories shall
be preserved level A or C; packed level A, B, or C as specified (see 6.2.1);
and marked in accordance with MIL-P-16789.

NOTES
6.1 Intended use. Pumps covered by this specification are intended for
miscellaneous services on board Naval ships.
6.2 Ordering data.
6.2.1 Acquisition requirements. Acquisition documents should specify the
following:
(a)
Title, number, and date of this specification.
Designation of manufacturer (pump or driver) responsible to the
(b)
purchaser for compatibility of pump and driver and operation of
the assembled unit.
Pump number (see figures 6 and 7).
(c)
Size and weight requirements (see 3.2).
(d)
Performance characteristics (see 3.2 and 3.3.1).
(e)
(1) Rated capacity - gal/rein or MHC.

(2) Rated total dynamic head - lb/in or MHC.
(3) Liquid to be pumped.
(4) Specific gravity of liquid to be pumped.
(5) Temperature of liquid to be pumped.
(6) Suction head.
(f)
Vibration test requirements (see 3.2.3.4 and 4.6.7).
Noise level limits and whether noise test is required (see 3.2.5
(g)
and 4.6.9).
Mounting of units (see 3.2.6.1).
(h)
If threaded fasteners are other than specified (see 3.2.10.2).
(i)
Piping, flanged connections, and valve requirements (see 3.2* 11.1
(j)
and 3.2.18.1).
