Carefully weigh 2.0 ± 0.1 g of sample into a tared weighing dish or container. The sample shall be
weighed to the nearest 0.1 mg. The black powder must not be exposed to the atmosphere for more
than 3 minutes.
Uncovered samples shall then be placed in an oven at 70 to 75·C. Do not draw vacuum.
f. After 4 hours minimum, remove samples from oven, cover, and place in a desiccator to cool. After
cooling, carefully weigh samples to the nearest 0.1 mg. Calculate the percent moisture as follows:
A = Sample weight plus container weight, undried, g
B = Undried container weight, g
C = Undried sample weight, g
D = Sample weight plus container weight, after drying, g
E = Weight difference, after drying, g
4.7.3 Detail strip. The primer shall be disassembled to determine conformance to all the discernible critical
and major characteristics specified on applicable documents. All inspections shall be performed at the highest
level of assembly possible.
4.7.4 No-fire. The primer stock assembly (see 6.7.3) shall be assembled in Test Set Mk 135 Mod 0 (LD
166537) and tested in accordance with the appropriate procedures of OD 5823 using the test equipment
specified in 4.7.5. The ball drop height shall be 4 inches.
4.7.5 Functional. The primer shall be assembled into the test set Mk 135 Mod 0 and tested in accordance
with the following:
Firing pin, Drawing 553214, piece 4
Steel ball, approximately 1.906 inches diameter, 16.28 ± 0.02 ounces.
The drop height shall be 15 inches. Firing time is the time from first application of firing energy to the primer
until the first indication of light is produced. First indication of light shall be determined by the use of two
photo transitors or light activated silicone controlled rectifiers aimed parallel to the primer tube and located
at the stock end of the primer.
