Acceptance Tests:
The acceptance tests shall consist of the

(b) Periodic sampling plans and tests
Individual Tests:  Each vacuum pump shall be subjected to the

following tests as described under 4.4 :

Periodic Sampling Plans and Tests
4.2.3.1
Sampling Plan:  One vacuum pump shall be selected at random from
every fifty or fraction thereof produced and subjected to the tests specified
in 4.4.7.
Rejection and Retest:  When one vacuum pump selected from a pro-

duction run fails to meet the specification, vacuum pumps still on hand or
later produced shall not be accepted until the extent and cause of failure
are determined.
4.2.3.1.2
Individual Tests May Continue:  For operational reasons, individ-
al tests may be continued pending the investigation of a sampling test
failure.  Final acceptance of vacuum pumps on hand or produced later shall not
be made until it is determined that the vacuum pumps meet all the requirements
of the specification,
Defects in Vacuum Pumps Already Accepted: The investigation of
4.2.3.1.3
a test failure could indicate that defects may exist in vacuum pumps already
accepted.  If so, the contractor shall fully advise the procuring activity of
all defects likely to be found and methods of correcting them.
4.3
Test Conditions
Apparatus:  Insofar as practicable, apparatus used in conjunction

with testing prescribed herein shall be of laboratory precision type and
shall be calibrated at intervals properly spaced to assure laboratory accuracy.
4.3.2
Instrumentation
4.3.2.1
Pressures:  Wherever practicable, pressures and pressure differen-
tials shall be measured by means of liquid manometers, Pressures exceeding
the range of conventional liquid manometers shall be measured by means of
properly calibrated Bourdon-tube gages.  Such gages shall be of laboratory
type having a dial diameter of not less than 4 inches,
