4 . 4 . 3 . 4 High-pressure resistance, functioning, and targeting and
a c c u r a c y f i r i n g t e s t i n g .  T h e contractor shall test each rifle for high-
- p r e s s u r e resistance, functioning, and targeting and accuracy using the
t e s t methods specified in 4.5.5, 4.5.6, and 4.5.7 respectively. Rifles
f a i l i n g to meet any of the requirements shall be rejected.
4.4.3.5 Interchangeability testing.

4 . 4 . 3 . 5 . 1 . 1  R i f l e s .  T h e contractor shall subject a sample of ten
r i f l e s selected by the Government representative from each inspection
l o t to interchangeability testing using the test method specified in
4 . 5 . 8 . 1 . 1 . Rifles taken for interchangeability testing shall have been
f o u n d satisfactory in all other examinations and tests.
T h e ten rifles shall be tested for and shall comply with the requirements
f o r headspaces firing pin indent, and trigger pull before and after
i n t e r c h a n g e of parts, using the test methods specified in 4.5.2, 4.5.3,
a n d 4.5.4 respectively.  I n addition, the rifles shall be tested for
f u n c t i o n i n g and targeting and accuracy requirements after interchange
o f parts using the test methods specified in 4.5.6 and 4.5.7. Hand
r e f i n e m e n t of parts will be allowed on not more than two rifles during
i n t e r c h a n g e of parts provided that no part is altered beyond drawing
N o malfunctions shall be allowed in the functioning
requirements.

t h e targeting and accuracy firing test.  Overhang of the front sight on
t h e flash suppressor tenon will be allowed on all rifles in the targeting
a n d accuracy firing test.  H o w e v e r , rifles failing in the targeting and
a c c u r a c y test with in the limitations above, and rifles having overhanging
f r o n t sights shall be corrected by the contractor to meet the targeting
and accuracy requirements (see 3.3.24 and 4.5.7) before they are returned
t o the represented lot for final acceptance. Failure of the interchange-
a b i l i t y test shall cause retest or rejection of the represented lot. At
t h e discretion of the Government representative, an interchangeability
r e t e s t may be allowed without reconditioning the lot of rifles.  F a i l u r e
i n the retest shall cause rejection of the represented lot subject to
r e c o n d i t i o n i n g and further test as a reconditioned lot. A sample of 20
r i f l e s from each retest or reconditioned lot shall be tested using the
same procedure described above except that hand refinement and failure
i n the targeting and accuracy firing will be allowed on not more than
4  rifles.
4 . 4 . 3 . 5 . 1 . 2 Concurrent repair parts. The contractor shall subject
a t least two parts from each inspection lot of concurrent repair parts
to the interchangeability test specified in 4.5.8.1.2, Failure of any
p a r t to meet the requirements shall be cause for rejection of the repre-
s e n t e d lot of parts subject to reconditioning and further test as a
r e c o n d i t i o n e d lot. A sample of double the number of parts used in the
o r i g i n a l test shall. be tested from each reconditioned lot using the
t e s t method specified in 4.5.8.1.2.
