Cross-country trails with sprayer operating.  The properly mounted
sprayer shall be started up and adjusted for routine operation.  The
sprayer shall be operated continuously (except for refueling) in the
nonspraying mode at designed operating engine speed for a 2-mile
cross-country test in which the carrier vehicle will be driven at a safe
speed, stopped, and the sprayer actuated to apply liquid for 3 - 5
minutes.  This will be repeated 5 times.  Inability of the sprayer to
spray or failure of any component shall constitute failure of this test.

Failure of road tests.  Examine the sprayer at the completion of each
phase of the road test.  The breaking or loosening of any fitting, seal,
or other component that would cause the sprayer to malfunction shall
constitute failure of any specified road test.
4.5.2.3 Performance.  The sprayer shall pump liquid from the liquid tank at
pump level through the spray gun with the bypass valve closed for a period of
not less than 5 minutes.  This procedure shall be repeated not less than 15
times, and the priming, pressure, and capacity of the pump shall be determined.
The spray-gun valve shall be closed, the bypass valve shall be opened, and the
liquid shall be pumped continuously for not less than 8 hours from the liquid
tank, through the pump, and back to the tank.  Inability of the pump to prime
itself, discharge capacity of less than 360 gph at 400 psi, inability to build
up a pressure of 200 psi within 1 minute with the spray-gun valve open, or
leakage at the pump or fittings shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.4 Spray gun assembly.  One hundred gallons of liquid shall be pumped
through the spray gun at a pressure of 800 psi by a pressure source other than
the pump, and the spray gun valve shall be turned on and off four times and
examined.  Cracking, splitting, or leakage of any component of the spray gun
assembly shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.5 Burst pressure.  Hydrostatic pressure shall be applied as specified
in ASTM D380 to determine conformance to the requirements of 3.8.1.  A certif-
icate of compliance shall be acceptable as proof that the product being offered
meets the requirements of 3.8.1., provided the contractor furnishes actual test
results, acceptable to the Government, indicating that tests have been performed
to substantiate the certification.  The certificate shall state that the tests
described in this paragraph have been performed on products manufactured from
the same material and manufacturing process as the items being offered and that
any proposed changes in material or process will be promptly reported to the
Government.  The Government reserves the right to require additional testing and
certification by the contractor when such changes are made or when otherwise
deemed necessary.  For pressures greater than 15 psi, the appropriate ASME code
symbol shall be acceptable evidence of compliance.
4.5.2.6 Hose.  Samples of hose, not less than 3 feet long, shall be subjected
to a hydrostatic pressure of not less than 1200 psi for a period of not less
than 1 minute.  Any leaks, splits, collapse or permanent deformation shall
constitute failure of this test.
