3.5 Plate surface.  The sling spreader plate surface shall not deviate
from a straight edge (when placed against the surface of the spreader) by
more than 1/8 inch.  All edges shall not deviate from a straight line by more
than 1/200 of its length.
3.6 Surface and edge finish.  Plate finish shall be in the natural rolled
condition as received from the steel mill.  Edge finish shall be as specified
in figure 1 and in accordance with ANSI B46.1.
3.7 Welding.  Welding shall be in accordance with MIL-W-8611.  Interpretation
of welding symbols in figure 1 shall be in accordance with ANSI/AWS A2.4.
3.8 Cleaning and painting.  The sling spreader shall be cleaned, treated,
and painted in accordance with MIL-T-704, type A.  The color of the finish
paint shall match color No. 34087 of FED-STD-595.
3.9 Identification marking.  The sling spreader shall be identified in
accordance with MIL-STD-130.  The marking shall be applied to the sling spreader
on a plate 6 inches long by 3-1/2 inches wide conforming to MIL-P-15024/6.
In addition, "TOTAL SWL 15,000 LB" shall be legibly stamped on each plate.  The
plate shall be attached to the spreader in the area shown in figure 1.
3.10 Workmanship.  The finished sling spreader shall be free from dents,
cracks, splits, and burrs.
4.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
4.1 Responsibility for inspection.  Unless otherwise specified in the con-
tract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of
all inspection requirements specified herein.  Except as otherwise specified in
the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other
facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified
herein, unless disapproved by the Government.  The Government reserves the right
to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such in-
spections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to pre-
scribed requirements.
4.1.1 Components and material inspection.  The contractor is responsible for
insuring that components and materials used are manufactured, examined, and
tested in accordance with referenced specifications and standards.
