MIL-S-20706A
shall be such that the tooth when mounted on the shank makes an
angle of 41 degrees plus or minus 1 degree with reference to the
ground when the shank is in vertical cutting position. When the
shank is in dragging position, the heel of the shank shall float
not less than 1-1/2 inches above ground level. The section of the
shank adjacent to the tooth shall be the same width as the tooth
cutting bit (cutting face).  The shank shall conform to MS39000 ex-
cept that the dimensions shall be as specified in-table I. The shank
shall permit the use of an actuating mechanism for spring loading the
shank. The shank assembly shall be constructed so that it can be in-
stalled or removed without special tools in less than 1 minute by one
man.
3.9.2 Mounting bolts. Mounting bolts shall be 1/8 inch smaller
than the bolt holes for the mounting brackets as shown in figure 1.
3.9.3 Latch mechanism.  When specified, a spring actuating mecha-
nism shall be provided for holding the tooth in the digging position
to counteract the forces gravity when the tractor dozer unit is
working up a slope.  This mechanism shall be compact, self-operating,
and shall permit the shank to rest against the resistance of the
spring.  The spring shall of sufficient strength to return the
shank against the moldboard when the scarifier is in a position 50
degrees from vertical.
3.10 Type II, for angledozer blades. Scarifier assemblies for
angledozers shall have a housing to fit on the yoke or "C" frame of
the angledozer.  The housing shall be suitable for welding to the yoke
or "C" frame.  The assembly shall withstand the entire force or load
of the tractor without distortion or failure of the housing or the
attaching welds.  The housing skill fit closely on the bottom and both
sides of the box frame of the yoke to provide sufficient surface for
securing the housing. Means shall be provided for the shank and tooth
to be locked in the carry position permitting ground clearance when
not in use. The houseing shall be constructed to minimize entrance of
soil into the housing assembly. The requirements for strength, materials,
and tolerances shall be the same as specified for type I scarifier assem-
blies.
3.10.1 Shank. The shank construction, materials, and operation shall
be the same as specified for type I scarifier assemblies. The size 4
shank shall conform MS39126.
3.10.2 Tooth. The tooth shall ocnform to MIL-T-20705.
3.11 Workmanship. All parts and components of the scarifier assem-
