REQUIREMENTS

3.1
Specification sheets.  The individual ATS/AD requirements
shall be as specified herein and in accordance with the applicable
Specification Sheets.  In the event of conflict between the requirements
of this specification and the Specification Sheet, the requirements of
the Specification Sheet shall govern.
Qualification.  ATS/ADs furnished under this specification

shall be products which are qualified for listing on the applicable
Qualified Products List at the time set for opening of bids (see 4.3 and
6.3).
3.2.1
Data.  Unless specified in the contract, data cited
in this specification is only required as part of the qualification
submittal.
Materials and parts.  Materials and parts used in
3.2.2
the manufacture of the ATS/ADs shall be of high quality, suitable for
the purpose and shall conform to applicable Government specifications.
Materials, parts, and processes shall conform to applicable Government
specifications listed in MIL-BULL-544.  Contractor or industry specifications
may be used for materials or processes not covered by the documents
listed in MIL-BULL-544, provided the specifications are approved by the
qualifying activity and contain provisions for adequate tests.
3.2.3
Selection of specifications, standards and drawings.
Specifications, standards and drawings applicable to the design and
construction of the ATS/ADs shall be in accordance with those documents
listed in MIL-BULL-544 approved by the Naval Air Systems Command and
takes precedence in accordance with MIL-STD-143.
3.2.4
Packings.  All packings shall be in accordance with
the requirements of MIL-H-5440 or MIL-H-25475 as applicable.  Age of
synthetic rubber parts shall be controlled in accordance with MIL-STD-
1523.
3.2.5
Metals.  All metals used in the construction of the
ATS/ADs except metals which are in constant contact with oil, shall be
of a corrosion-resistant type or shall be suitably protected in accordance
with 3.2.5.1.  The use of dissimilar metals, as defined by MIL-sTD-889,
shall be avoided wherever practicable.
3.2.5.1
Corrosion protection.  Metals which do not inherently
possess adequate corrosion-resistant characteristics shall be suitably
protected, in accordance with the following subparagraphs, to resist
corrosion which may result from such conditions as dissimilar metal
combinations, moisture, salt spray, and high temperature deterioration
as applicable.  Treatments that tend to promote stress corrosion in
surfaces that contain residual tensile stresses shall be avoided.
