4.4.2.2 Seat back.  The seat back of each type of seat shall withstand
the loads as tabulated below.  The loads shall be acting rearward and
uniformly distributed over the seat back.

4.4.2.3 Side Load.  Each type of seat shall withstand side loads as
tabulated below.  The side load shall act in line with the center line of the
front seat tube which supports the front of the seat bottom.

4.4.2.4 Seat leg locking mechanism.  Each seat leg locking mechanism
shall support an up load of 1000 pounds ultimate and 670 pounds proof applied
while the seat is erected in the testing jig or fixture.
4.4.2.5 Load procedure.  The seat units shall be subjected to and
required to withstand without permanent set the specified proof loads. The
seat bottom loads and the seat side loads shall be applied simultaneously
with the back support hanging loosely at ultimate load.  During the back
load test specified in 4.4.2.2 the seat back and seat bottom shall be
adjusted until they are taut.  In addition to the above listed tests, the
type I and type II seats shall be joined at the seat back, seat bottom and
front support tube, and the seat back and bottom loading procedures for the
type I seat shall be applied directly over the joint between the seats in
order to test the strength of the joint.
4.5 First Article Inspection.
4.5.1 First Article test sample tested by the contractor. The con-
tractor shall subject one seat of each type to the first article test speci-
fied in 4.5.4.

4.5.2 First Article test report.  After the contractor completes the
first article tests, he shall prepare a first article test report according to
MIL-STD-831 and furnish three complete copies of the report to the procuring
activity.
4.5.3 First Article Inspection sample for the procuring activity.  Along
with the first article test report, the contractor shall submit a sample seat
to the procuring activity.
