MIL-S-45152H
3.7 Platform.
*  3.7.1 Flooring. The platform shall be floored with apitong, white or red oak, or white ash of
2-1/4 inch uniform thickness as specified in MIL-W-3912. The tolerance on wood thickness
shall be plus or minus 1/8 inch. The average weight of apitong used shall be not less than
50 pounds per cubic foot (pcf), with none of the individual pieces weighing less than 47 pcf, with
no more than 15 percent moisture content at time of weighing. Flooring shall be laid lengthwise,
as close together as practicable, attached with corrosion-resistant countersunk bolts and bridge
style floor clips to eliminate drilling frame members. The top of countersunk bolt heads shall be
not less than 1/8 inch and not more than 1/4 inch below the top of the wood surface. Exposed
ends and edges of the flooring shall be protected with metal reinforcements. Wood surface shall
be not less than 1/4 inch higher than adjoining metal members to prevent metal-to-metal contact
of the load and the semitrailer. Platform crossmembers and bracing shall be adequate to sustain
the rated payload with the load distributed as specified in 3.4. When platform width extensions
are specified (see 3.7.9) the two center boards shall be secured to permit their easy removal by
one man without special tools. The removable boards shall be capable of being used in the
extension brackets specified.
* 3.7.2 Type I level deck. The platform shall be of the level deck type, extending from the
rear of the gooseneck and continuing straight, with no wheel housings or kickup over the wheels.
Wheelwells in the platform will be permitted; however, with the semitrailer on a level surface
and with payload, and while the semitrailer is being loaded with a mobile payload from the rear,
the tires shall not extend above the top of the platform.
3.7.3 Type II drop deck. The platform shall be of the drop deck type with a drop in the
gooseneck area and with a kickup over the rear wheels.
*  3.7.4 Type V level deck extended. The platform shall be completely covered and level,
extending from the rear of the gooseneck to the rear of the semitrailer with no protrusions or
cutouts. If wheelwells are necessary, they shall be covered with steel plates. Under all
conditions, there shall be no interference between the tires and the platform or wheelwell covers
when the semitrailer is loaded with the specified payload and subject to the maximum suspension
system articulation.
3.7.5 Platform extension (beavertail). When specified (see 6.2), a platform extension
(beavertail) shall be provided. The length of the beavertail shall be a nominal 24 inches with a
slope not less than 12 degrees and not more than 15 degrees. When a beavertail is furnished, the
maximum specified overall length of the semitrailer may be increased by not more than 2 feet.
3.7.6 Stake pockets. When specified (see 6.2), type I level deck and type II drop deck
semitrailer shall have eight stake pockets, four on each side. Unless otherwise specified
(see 6.2), type V level deck extended semitrailer shall have stake pockets as follows:
