*  4.3.3.1 Patterning. High stress areas of the frame assembly shall be coated with brittle
lacquer prior to the road test. The semitrailer shall be fully loaded and towed over the Belgian
block test course for one cycle.
*  4.3.3.2 Strain recording. Strain gage rosettes shall be positioned in locations of high stress
concentrations. The locations shall be as determined by the brittle lacquer patterning. A
minimum of ten strain gages shall be used. Locations of strain gages shall include the
gooseneck, the kingpin area and transverse areas. Strains shall be recorded for each of the
following three cycles of the test course:
(a)
Full load
1 cycle
(b)
40 to 60 percent of full load
1 cycle
(c)
No load
1 cycle
Strain/occurence histograms shall be supplied for each strain gage for each test cycle. The actual
test course shall be recorded on the histogram. Pictures indicating the position of each strain
gage shall be provided.
*  4.3.3.3 Evaluation. The ultimate, tensile and yield strengths of the gaged components shall
be documented. Any strain recorded indicating stress greater than that specified in 3.6 shall be
cause for rejection.
*  4.3.3.4 General design and performance characteristics verification. The equipment shall be
verified as suitable for the intended use by satisfactorily completing the preceding inspections
and tests. Equipment submitted for test shall contain all specified components and shall be
properly adjusted and serviced for operation. Apparatus used in conjunction with the tests shall
be calibrated for accuracy. In addition to the results of inspections and tests, test records shall
include the following information, as applicable.
(a)
Name, date(s), and location of test
(b)
Description of test course and weather conditions that could affect test results
