drain shall be so located at the bottom of the sump for complete drainage of the fuel tank.
Drainage shall be provided to preclude spillage of fuel on any area of the vehicle. The tank filler
shall be provided with a protective screen and vent. A shut-off valve shall be provided in the
line to the power source and shall be adjacent to the fuel tank. An identification plate shall be
furnished and marked denoting the type of fuel to be used and shall be located in a conspicuous
location near the filler cap (see 3.2.2.1.5). Terne-plate fuel tanks shall not be supplied when
diesel engines are furnished.
3.8.7 Exhaust system. The exhaust system shall be furnished with a legally quiet,
corrosion-resistant muffler and means shall be provided to vent exhaust fumes away from
operating personnel. Muffler and exhaust pipe shall be enclosed with a corrosion-resistant,
ventilated metal shield. The outlet shall be provided with an elbow and counterbalanced rain cap
to preclude weather entering the exhaust system. The rain cap shall open upon exhaust pressure.
3.9 Semitrailer. The semitrailer specifications shall be in accordance with table III. The
component sequence and number system shall be in accord with the "Vehicle Maintenance
Reporting Standards" (VMRS), the trucking industry standardization system of the American
Trucking Associations (ATA).
