5.2 Military processing. When specified (see 6.2 and 6.8), the semitrailers shall be
processed in accordance with 5.2.1.
5.2.1 Preservation, packaging and marking. Each semitrailer shall be preserved, packaged,
and marked in accordance with MIL-STD-281, as specified for (mobile) preservation and
packaging. The level of preservation and packaging shall be level A, B, or C as specified
(see 6.2).
6. NOTES
6.1 Intended use. Size 10 semitrailers are intended for use in hauling and dumping refuse.
Sizes 12, 20, and 25 semitrailers are intended for use primarily in transporting and dumping
loose material on earthmoving jobs. All semitrailers are intended to couple with and be towed
by commercial truck-tractors including those conforming to KKK-T-2108, KKK-T-2109, and
MIL-T-52901.
6.2 Ordering data. Procurement documents should specify the following:
(a)
Title, numbers, and dates of this specification and specification sheets.
(b)
Size of semitrailer and its specification sheets required (see 1.2).
(c)
When a prime mover with each semitrailer is required and what, specifications,
minimum size features, and options are required (see 3.1.2, 3.6.1, 3.7, 4.5.2.5,
and 6.4).
(d)  Time frame required for submission of first article semitrailer (see 3.1.4).
(e)  When the Government will conduct any or all of the first article examination and
tests. When the Government will conduct some but not all of the first article
examination and tests, the contracting officer should specify which examination and
tests will be conducted by the Government and which examination and tests shall be
conducted by the contractor (see 3.1.4).
(f)  When electromagnetic interference is required (see 3.2.1).
(g)  Cite the appropriate service and what treatment, painting, and data plates are
required (see 3.2.2).
(h)  When treatment and painting of the semitrailer in accordance with MIL-T-704 is
required and, optionally, when single coat wax-based compounds are acceptable
(see 3.2.2).
(i)  Cite the appropriate service and what marking is required (see 3.2.3).
(j)  When lifting attachments are required (see 3.2.5).
(k)  When tiedown attachments are required (see 3.2.6).
(l)  When a lightweight, aluminum semitrailer is required in lieu of high-tensile steel
and the maximum weight limit for the aluminum semitrailer's curb weight (see 3.5).
(m) When a power actuated tailgate trip control system is required, and in addition,
when it shall be operated only during a service brake application by the driver
(see 3.5, (o) and (p)).
