MILITARY SPECIFICATION
SEMITRAILER CHASSIS: INTERMODAL CARGO CONTAINER CARRYING,
COMMERCIAL
AND
CONTAINER, CARGO: INTERMODAL, DEMOUNTABLE,
COMMERCIAL
This specification is approved for use by the US Army Tank-Automotive Command,
Department of the Army, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the
Department of Defense.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers 20 and 40 foot semitrailer chassis and 20 and 40 foot
demountable closed cargo containers (intermodal type) for transporting and storage cargo. The
semitrailer chassis and demountable containers may be procured as a combined unit or as
individual items to supplement an existing system, as specified in 1.2. The semitrailer chassis
are of the tandem axle type and have minimum gross weight ratings of 51,050 pounds for the
model A, 20 foot chassis, 74,500 pounds for the model B, 40 foot chassis, and 75,800 pounds for
the model C, 40 foot chassis. Items procured under this specification are commercial items
which shall be warranted by the manufacturer as specified in procurement documents.
1.2 Classification. The following models of equipment shall be provided, as specified
(see 6.2):
Model A - Semitrailer chassis, 20 foot cargo container carrying
Model B - Semitrailer chassis, 40 foot cargo container carrying
