3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Standard vehicle and accessories. Except as specified in 3.1.1 through 3.1.1.2, the
vehicle, components, assemblies, and accessories to be delivered under the contract shall be the
manufacturer's standard or optional items, which meet or exceed the requirements of this
specification. All vehicle items shall be as represented and rated in the vehicle and equipment
manufacturer's technical data except the general configuration shall be as shown in figure 1.
Technical data shall be limited to specifications and technical material, identical to that furnished
to the authorized company representatives for selection of vehicle models and components, and
shall be on file in the engineering offices of the procuring activity prior to delivery of the items.
The vehicle and furnished accessories shall comply with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards in effect on the date of manufacture.
3.1.1 Special requirements. In addition to the standard vehicle and components specified
in 3.1, the vehicle shall be furnished with special equipment as specified herein.

3.1.1.1 Treatment, painting identification marking and data plates. As specified by the
procuring activity for the appropriate service (see 6.2), treatment, painting, identification
marking, and data plates shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1223.
3.1.1.1.1 Type gas. The name of the gas, "HELIUM, " shall be painted on each side of
the semitrailer forward of the control cabinet assembly in block letters 4 inches high. The
lettering "FOR USE WITH HELIUM ONLY" shall be painted on the inside and outside of each
control cabinet assembly rear access door in block letters 2 inches high.
3.1.1.1.2 Control marking. All valves, gages, controls, and indicators used in operation
of the semitrailer shall be identified by securely attached nameplates of such composition that
exposure to oil, dirt, light and moisture will not fade or cause them to become eradicated.
3.1.1.2 Drain plugs. All drain plugs installed throughout the semitrailer for the purpose
of draining lubricants shall be of the magnetic type.
3.2 Vehicle weight and ratings.
3.2.1 Curb weight. The curb weight of the semitrailer shall include all attachments,
accessories, equipment and the 38 helium pressure vessels installed on the vehicle.
