MIL-S-62127A(AT)
3.9.4.3.3 Shutoff valves. Each pressure gage sensing connection shall incorporate a
readily operable and accessible shutoff valve capable of isolating the gage from the manifold
assembly.
3.9.4.4 Master flow control and shutoff valves. The master flow control and shutoff
devices shall be manually operated valves capable of throttling and controlling the flow of
2,400 psig helium. The valves shall be of sufficient size to insure compliance with the delivery
flow rate requirements specified in 3.8.5.6 but shall be not less than 3/4 inch pipe size.
Construction of the valves shall be such that they will not cause unnecessary restriction of the
line when open and will isolate the final outlet fittings from the remainder of the manifold piping
when closed. The valves shall be readily operable by hand. The valves shall be mounted and
installed so that the control handles will be readily accessible to an operator standing on the
ground at the rear of the semitrailer. Force exerted in valve opening or closing shall not be
transmitted to the manifold piping.
3.9.4.5 Final outlets. Each cylinder manifold final outlet shall be the hose disconnect
coupling half assembly and shall be 3/4 inch. The manifold piping shall terminate in fittings
provided with threads for direct and leak-tight installation of the specified disconnect coupling
half assemblies.
3.9.4.5.1 Outlet mountings. The final outlet fittings shall be mounted and installed to be
readily accessible to an operator standing on the ground at the rear of the semitrailer for
attachment of the servicing and charging hoses specified in 3.9.5. Each final outlet fitting shall
be so mounted to supporting members that force applied in attaching or removing the servicing
hoses, or while a servicing hose is attached, will not be applied to the manifold piping.
3.9.4.5.2 Protective caps. Protective caps designed to tightly seal the fittings and provide
mechanical protection for the threads shall be provided. The caps shall be securely attached to
the final outlet fittings by chains or similar devices to prevent loss.
*
3.9.4.6 Cylinder manifold vent attachment. A valve-controlled vent line, fabricated from
pipe or tubing not less than 3/4 inch in size, shall be provided between the cylinder and venting
manifold assemblies to permit emergency release of contents through the venting manifold
assembly.
