4.4.5 Recurring minor deficiencies. A minor deficiency is recurring if it occurs more than
twice in the same sample, or when the defect occurs in four successive samples, Recurring minor
deficiencies shall be cause for the entire lot or lots to be inspected for the recurring deficiencies
and correction shall be accomplished prior to acceptance.
4.4.6 Unclassified characteristics. All unclassified defects having no bearing on function,
safety, interchangeability of life, but which are considered departures from good workmanship,
shall be noted in writing. Workmanship deficiencies falling within this category and recurring in
five consecutive lots, or in ten lots or more within a 30-day period, shall be added to the minor
characteristics with no increase in AQLs. This deficiency may be deleted from the minor
classification of characteristics when five consecutive lots are found free of the deficiency.
4.4.7 QCI and acceptance. To determine conformance to section 3 in its entirety, each
completed trailer shall be examined and inspected as specified in tables V and VI and road tested
for a distance of not less than 15 mi by the contractor. Trailer(s) shall be completely assembled
and serviced. Each trailer and its components and sub-systems shall be fully inspected for proper
function and operation and correction of defects made as required. The trailer will be re-run an
additional 15 mi and examined as necessary to validate corrections and to assure an acceptable
trailer.
4.4.7.1 Failure. If a trailer fails to pass any acceptance test specified in table V, the
Government inspector shall reject the entire-lot or trailer(s) and shall stop acceptance of
subsequent trailers until evidence has been provided by the contractor that corrective action has
been taken to correct the deficiencies causing the rejection.
4.5 Control tests.
4.5.1 Frequency. The Government shall select at random, 1 semitrailer out of each 40 trailers
produced or 1 for each month of production for the control tests specified in 4.5.2 and tables V
and VI.
4.5.2 Fifty-mile test. Each trailer selected for control test by the Government shall be
operated for a distance of not less than 50 mi by the contractor. Trailers shall be completely
assembled and serviced. The test course or area shall be selected by the manufacturer and shall be
30 mi of paved and 20 mi of secondary roads, The 50-mi shall be with the trailer loaded with a
properly distributed load as specified in the contract.
4.5.3 Failure. If the trailer selected fails to pass any of the control tests, the Government
inspector shall stop acceptance examination and testing on subsequent trailers until such time as
conditions causing the failure have been remedied. Any defect found during or as a result of the
test shall be prima facie evidence the trailer(s) accepted subsequent to the previous acceptable
control test trailer(s) are similarly defective unless evidence satisfactory to the contracting officer
