4.7.29 Transportability provision check. To determine conformance to 3.4.17, 3.4.17.1, and
3.4.17.4, each semitrailer, less payload, shall be checked for proper installation and location of lift
points, vehicle tiedown, and markings as specified.
4.7.29.1 Transportability provisions. To determine conformance to 3.4.17 through 3.4.17.4,
the semitrailer, with rated payload, shall be subjected to sling, tiedown, and lifting requirements as
specified.
4.7.30 Turning ability test. To determine conformance to 3.5.2, the trailer combination shall
be operated as specified and checked for specified turning angle in both directions and observed
for interference with the prime mover and damage to the trailer or prime mover. The required
load is specified by the test performed.
4.7.31 Tracking ability test. To determine conformance to 3.5.6, the semitrailer shall be
tested according to specified requirements.
4.7.32 Articulation test. To determine conformance to 3.4.13.5, the axle and suspension
system, with payload specified by the test performed, shall be tested for specified requirements.
4.7.33 Dimension and clearance inspection. To determine conformance to 3.4.1, 3.4.1.1,
3.4.10, 3.4.11, and 3.4.11.1, the semitrailer shall be inspected for specified requirements.
4.7.34 Rear and side loading test. To determine conformance to 3.5.8, a vehicle as specified
in the contract, shall be rear end loaded and also side loaded with a semitrailer adjacent to earth
ramps as specified. Any damage to the semitrailer or truck-tractor during loading or failure of the
semitrailer to permit loading of the vehicle shall be cause for rejection. No other aids to the
semitrailer other than specified earth ramps shall be used.
4.7.35 Front loading test. To determine conformance to 3.4, 3.4.7, and 3.5.7, loading
requirement, a vehicle as specified in the contract shall be front loaded with the semitrailer
gooseneck unfolded flat to the ground as specified. Any damage to the semitrailer during loading
for failure of the semitrailer to permit loading of the vehicle shall be cause for rejection.
4.7.36 Climatic tests. To determine conformance to 3.2.2, semitrailer(s) shall be tested for
specified requirements.
4.7.37 Compatibility test. To determine conformance to 3.2.1, the semitrailer(s), with
specified payload, shall be tested for conformance to requirements 3.4, 3.4.1, 3.4.1.1, 3.4.21,
3.5.8 and 6.1 with each truck-tractor specified. Each truck-tractor and semitrailer combination
shall be weighed to assure that the truck-tractor specifications are not exceeded. Each
truck-tractor specified shall be used to accomplish the mileages required for each test
semitrailer(s). The test mileages will be divided equally between truck-tractors. Each
truck-tractor shall furnish the test semitrailer with 24V electrical power for 50% of its allotted
mileage and 12V electrical power for the remainder of its allotted mileage.
