3 . 4 . 9  Interchangeability  (first article only).
All  components
having  the  same  manufacturer's  part  number  shall  be  dimensionally
and functionally interchangeable in accordance with MIL-I-8500.  The
item identification and part number requirements of MIL-STD-1OO
shall govern the manufacturer's part number and changes thereto.
Interchangeability must be maintained within the detail parts to the
level of replaceable items.
3.5 First article inspection.  This specification contains
technical provisions for first article inspection.  Requirements for
the submission of first article by the contractor shall be as
specified in the contract.
3.6 Workmanship.  Workmanship shall be in accordance with
electronic and mechanical weapon-build practices to ensure safety,
proper and dependable operation, and service life. Particular
attention shall be given to assure thoroughness of assembly,
alignment of parts, electrical connections, cleanliness, tightness
of screws and bolts, marking of parts, application of protective
finish, and freedom from burrs and rough or sharp edges.
QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS.
4.
4.1 Responsibility for inspection.  Unless otherwise specified
in the contract, the contractor is responsible for the performance
of all inspection requirements as specified herein.  Except as
otherwise specified in the contract, the contractor may use his own
or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the
inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the
Government.  The Government reserves the right to perform any of the
inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections
are deemed necessary to assure supplies conform to prescribed
requirements.
4.2 Classification of inspections.  The inspection requirements
specified herein are classed as follows:
First article inspection (see 4.4).
a.
Quality conformance inspection (see 4.5).
b.
4.3 Inspection conditions.  Unless otherwise specified, all
inspections shall be performed in accordance with the quality
assurance provisions of MIL-E-5400.
