MILITARY SPECIFICATION
STEEL : BARS AND FORGINGS,
CHROMIUM-NICKEL-MOLYBDENUM-VANADIUM
(FOR TORPEDO MK 46 MOD O)

This specification is approved for use by the Naval Sea Systems Command, Department of the Navy,
and is available for use by all departments and agencies of the Department of Defense.
1.
SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This specification covers chromium-nickel-molybdenum-
vanadium steel bars and forgings,
1.2 Classification.
1.2.1 Type. Bars and forgings are of the followings types in accord-
ance with the methods of manufacturing (see 3.3,1.1):
Type I - Air-melted steel
Type II - Vacuum-melted steel
1.2.2 Grades. Forgings are classified in three grades in accordance
with the methods of testing (see 3.3.1.2).
1.2.3 Composition. Bars and forgings are classified in two composi-
tions in accordance with the percentage of sulphur and phosphorus (see
3,3.183).
1.2.4 Condition, Bars and forgings are classified in two conditions
in accordance with the methods of annealing (see 3,3,1,4).
