3.3.2.1 Operational Stability - The equipment shall operate with satis-
factory performance, continuously or intermittently for a period of at least
2500 hours without the necessity for readjustment of any controls that are
inaccessible to the operator during normal use.
3.3.2.2 Operating Life - The equipment shall have a total operating life of
10,000 hours with reasonable servicing and replacement of parts. Parts requir-
ing scheduled replacement shall be specified by the contractor.
3.3.2.3 Reliability in Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) - The system,
including any Built-in-Test provisions, shall have 1250 hours of mean time
between failures (MTBF) when tested and accepted as outlined under the
requirements of 4.4.3.  The MTBF of the components shall be: Displacement
Gyroscope 3000 hours, Electronic Control Amplifier 2500 hours, Controller 30,000
hours and Electronic Compass Compensator 30,000 hours.
3.3.2.4 Time Totalizing Meter - The following units shall contain time
totalizing meters in accordance with Specification Mil-M-7793.

3.3.3 Cabling and Connections -
3.3.3.1 Cables and Connectors - The equipment shall provide for the use of
cables and connectors in accordance with Specification MIL-E-5400.
3.3.3.2 Interconnection Cabling - The equipment shall be capable of satis-
factory operation using external wiring in accordance with the applicable
requirements of Specification MIL-N-5088.  The external wiring shall be un-
shielded, except that a numeber of the individual wires shall be shielded when
necessary to meet interference control requirements.  External cables and that
portion of the connectors attached to the cables shall not be supplied as part
of the equipment specified herein.  The interconnection cabling shall be in
accordance with Figure 7.
3.3.3.3 Electrical Connectors - External connectors on the SOARS components
shall be in conformance with MIL-C-38999 Series 1.  All component connectors
shall be protected by connector caps during shipment.
3.3.4 Control Panels - All rack or console mounted control panels shall
conform to the applicable requirements of specification MIL-C-6781. The con-
figuration of all' panels must be approved by the procuring activity.
3.3.5 Interchangeability - The equipment shall meet the interchangeability
requirements of Specification MIL-E-5400.
3.3.6 Electromagnetic  Interference - The emission and susceptibility of
equipment conforming herein to electromagnetic interference shall meet CEO1,
CE03, CE04, CSO1, CS02, CS06, REO1, RE02, RSO1, RS02, RS03, Transient Spike
Generation,and Relay Transient Susceptibility requirements of MIL-STD-461.
