3.5.6.3 Engine control devices. Control devices shall be furnished for the engine.
Automatic control devices shall include a high temperature control (coolant control set at 104C
(220F)), an oil pressure control set at the engine manufacturer's minimum recommended oil
pressure, and an overspeed control operated independently from the governor mechanism and
requiring manual resetting. Manual control devices shall include a choke (gasoline engine only)
and a throttle. The manual throttle control shall permit operation of the engine at any selected
speed and shall not restrict the action of the governor when the engine in operating at governed
speeds.
3.5.6.4 Ignition or starting system. The ignition or starting system shall be a 12-volt
electrical circuit with a negative ground. The battery source shall be the truck battery system
(see 3.4.2.6).
3.5.6.5 Engine components. The engine fuel supply shall be provided by the truck chassis
fuel tank. A fuel pump and filter shall be provided. The muffler shall be positioned so that the
fumes do not interfere with the operator.
3.5.6.6 Engine accessories. The following engine accessories shall be panel mounted,
identified as to their function, waterproof, and installed in a manner to facilitate removal and
service:

Choke (gasoline engine only)
(b)
Throttle
(c)
Key-operated ignition or starting switch
(d)
Oil pressure gage
(e)
Tachometer
(f)
Starter button
(g)
Water temperature gage
(h)
Hour meter
The choke (gasoline engine only), throttle, ignition and starter switch shall be in an accessible
position to permit the operator to operate the auxiliary engine while standing on the ground.
3.5.7 Power takeoff clutch unit. A power takeoff clutch unit shall be provided, mounted
directly on the engine, and controlled by a hand-operated lever located in an accessible position
to permit the operator to engage or disengage the clutch while standing on the ground. The
power takeoff clutch shall be the manufacturer's standard with torque capacity exceeding
maximum delivered engine torque. The power takeoff clutch shall be provided with SAE power
takeoff openings. The power takeoff unit shall drive the centrifugal pump.
3.5.8 Centrifugal pump. A high pressure type, single stage centrifugal pump shall be
provided. The pump shal1 have a 100 mm (4-inch) suction port and a 75 mm (3-inch) discharge
port. The pump shall be capable of pumping water from the tank body and delivering water at
