TABLE I.
Tank materials.
With the exception of terneplate, steel materials conforming to the

Ferrous Metals Section, Numbering System, Chemical Composition Group and
General Data on Steels Group, of the SAE Handbook, may be used as
alternate standards to ASTM Standards.  SAE standard steel materials
shall have physical properties equal to or greater than the ASTM
standards.
Shall conform to applicable ASTM designations (see 3.6.3).

Shall conform to one or more of the standards specified in 3.11.
3.2 First article.  Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), a sample shall
be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.3) in accordance with 4.3.
3.3 Materials.  Materials shall be as specified in table I.  Materials not
specified shall be selected by the contractor, and shall be subject to all
provisions of this specification.
3.3.1 Material deterioration prevention and control. The fuel tank shall
be fabricated from compatible materials, inherently corrosion resistant or
treated to provide protection against the various forms of corrosion and
