MIL-T-52843C
3.9.6 Lifting speed. The forklift shall lift rated load at not
less than 40 feet per minute.
3.9.7 Lowering speed. The lowering speed with rated load shall be
not more than 80 feet per minute at maximum engine speed. The
lowering speed without load shall be not less than 60 feet per minute
at maximum engine speed.
3.9.8 Curb-clearance circle. The curb-clearance circle as defined
in SAE J695 shall be 45 feet, maximum.
3.9.9 Fork tilt. When unloaded the forks shall have 10 degrees
minimum forward tilt and 20 degrees minimum rearward tilt from the
horizontal. The minimum rearward tilt angle shall apply at the carry
position (see 6.10.3) and the minimum forward tilt angle shall apply
at the highest specified lift height.
3.9.10 Fork positioning. Hydraulically powered fork positioning
shall be furnished and shall be between 9 inches maximum, inside to
inside in closed position to a minimum outside to outside of 79
inches in maximum spread position. Either a hydraulic flow divider
shall be provided such that the forks move simultaneously at the same
rate 10 percent or the side shift function may provide fork
positioning by the operator unlatching one fork and side shifting the
other one.
3.9.11 Fork reach. The heel, front face, of the fork shall reach a
minimum of 48 inches forward of the vertical plane of the front tires
when the forks are 60 inches 2 inches above ground.
3.9.12 Maximum for height. The fork height of a truck bearing
rated capacity load in the horizontal position and measured from the
ground to the load carrying surface of the fork at the rated load
center, shall be not less than 120 inches.
3.9.13 Low engagement height. The lowest engagement height of the
forks shall be not less than 6 inches below ground level when
measured at the load carrying surfaces of the forks on an unloaded
truck with forks horizontal.
3.9.14 Drift. The lift arm assembly shall be capable of holding
the rated load at 24 inch height not less than 10 minutes with not
more than 1 inch of boom cylinder and tilt cylinder retraction or
travel. Specified drift rates shall be measured when hydraulic oil
temperature is not less than 120 F.
3.9.15 Oscillation. Hydraulically powered oscillation of the forks
shall be furnished. The forklift shall be capable of oscillating
rated load at each maximum side shifted position. The oscillation of
the rated load from horizontal shall be not less than 6 degrees
clockwise when the load is side shifted to extreme left and not less
