Tests.
4.4.1  Test conditions .  Tests shall be conducted at the ambient temperature
and climatic conditions existing at the place of test.  Only that maintenance
established by the contractor and submitted as a maintenance schedule prior to
commencement of the test shall be performed during the test.
4.4.2  Rated load.  Unless otherwise specified herein, a 48
inch cube of the
specified rated load shall be used.  Rated load is defined as
the forklift
capacity specified in 3.1.  The tolerance for weight shall be
plus 0 percent
and minus 1 percent and for dimensions shall be plus or minus
1 percent.
4.4.3  Maximum fork height, collapsed mast height, free-lift height .  With
the rated load on the forks and the mast in the true vertical position measure
and record collapsed mast height, free lift height and maximum fork height.
Nonconformance to 3.21.6, 3.21.7, or 3.21.8 shall be cause for rejection of
the forklift.
4.4.4  Lifting speed and lowering speed .  Measure and record the distance
from the floor to the top surface of the forks with the forks in the fully
lowered position.  Subtract this figure from maximum fork height.  Using the
resultant figure raise the rated load from the floor to maximum fork height
and record the time in seconds.  Record time in seconds to lower loaded forks
at maximum speed from maximum height to fully lowered position.  The raising
and lowering shall be performed three times and averaged.  Remove land and
raise empty forks to maximum height.  Record time in seconds required to lower
forks to fully lowered position.  Nonconformance to 3.21.1 or 3.21.2 shall be
cause for rejection of the forklift.
4.4.5  Travel speed.  Operate the forklift with the rated load in the front
carry position.  The forklift shall attain the specified speed in both the
forward and reverse directions.  The forklift shall be driven the distance
necessary to attain maximum speed prior to entering a measured distance of not
less than 22 feet.  The forklift shall be driven over the measured course
three times in each direction.  The speed shall be the average of the three
