(a) Rear doors in accordance with 3.5.4.1, side facing bench seats in accordance with
3.5.4.3, and a body with steel side panels without side windows; or
(b) A curbside door in accordance with 3.5.4.2, forward facing bench seats in accordance
with 3.5.4.4, and a body with or without side windows in accordance with 3.5.4.5.
3.5.2 Driver's compartment. The driver's compartment (cab) shall have the manufacturer's
current standard doors on each side. The doors shall be equipped with crank-regulated, safety
glass windows. The doors shall be furnished with locks, operable from inside the vehicle with
mechanical linkages with at least the curbside door equipped with an external key-operated lock.
Individual upholstered driver's and auxiliary seats shall be furnished. The driver's seat shall be
adjustable. Seat belts shall be furnished for both seats. A domelight and ventilator(s) shall be
provided. A full headliner shall be provided in the driver's compartment.
3.5.3 Partitions. At the manufacturer's option, either a two- or three-section partition
separating the driver's compartment from the rear compartment shall be provided. The intent of
the partition is to provide maximum security with provisions for emergency exit for the rear
compartment passengers. The partition shall be fabricated of not less than 16 gage (0.0598 inch)
steel or fiberglass reinforced plastic plywood panel. The plywood shall be not less than 3/4 inch
in thickness covered on each side with white fiberglass to form a total thickness of
approximately 0.835 inch.
3.5.3.1 Two-section partition. The partition section behind the driver shall be stationary and
permanently secured to the sides, roof, and floor of the body. The partition section behind the
assistant driver shall slide to the driver's side in channel guides, in front of the stationary section.
The sliding partition shall be equipped with fastening devices in the driver's compartment and
shall be such as to prevent opening from the rear compartment. The forward end of the sliding
door track shall be covered to prevent possible injury to the front seat passenger in case of a
sudden jolt to the vehicle.
3.5.3.2 Three-section partition. The partition section at the right and left sides of the vehicle
shall be permanently secured to the sides, roof, and floor of the body. The center section shall be
a door not less than 18 inches in width and extending from the floor to as near the ceiling as
possible. The door shall clear the cab headliner when in a fully open position. The door shall be
secured to the left partition with a piano type hinge on the driver's seat side of the front
compartment and shall open toward the driver's seat. The door shall be equipped with a
minimum of three nonspring-loaded fastening devices on the auxiliary seat side of the driver's
compartment, one at the top; one in the center; and one on the bottom; all arranged to prevent
opening the door from the rear compartment.
