located on the top and spaced equally on the top radius, and three bars shall be located on the
bottom and spaced equally on the bottom radius. The vertical distance between the vertical side
plates and the drum flanges shall be not more than one-half the specified cable diameter.
3.4.26 Body mounted rear winch (type I stake and platform). When specified (see 6.2),
type I stake and platform vehicle shall be furnished with a winch assembly mounted on the front
of the body floor. The winch shall be hydraulically driven. The winch shall be fully protected
against damage from cargo. The winch shall conform to SAE J706. The winch shall be of the
single drum type and shall have one forward and one reverse speed and a drum clutch to permit
free spooling of the cable. The winch and wire rope shall have a single line pull rating on the
bare drum of not less than 10,000 pounds. The winch shall be wound with not less than 150 feet
of improved plow steel, preformed regular lay, seale construction wire rope with fiber core and
shall be equipped with an end chain and hook. Properly identified operating controls shall be
located on or near the front bulkhead. The hydraulic hose connected to the hydraulic drive motor
shall be coiled and shall be capable of extending and retracting without snagging and without
any appreciable force being applied on the hose fittings as the body is elevated and retracted.
3.5 Body.
3.5.1 Construction. The subframe, hoist and body shall be designed, engineered, and
constructed of materials that display the minimum weight conducive to the configuration and
maximum performance requirements specified herein. Hydraulic lines and other associated parts
which are fastened to the assembly shall be positioned for easy inspection, ready maintenance,
and possible replacement and shall have maximum protection against damage afforded by the
configuration of the subframe, hoist, and body assembly. The body shall be attached to the
subframe. Rotating bearing surfaces which are subject to continuous wear shall be provided with
replaceable bearings and bushings. Lubrication fittings shall be provided on all rotating parts.
Bearing surfaces shall be adequate to resist torsional moment when inherent in the application.
3.5.1.1 Subframe, hoist and body components. The subframe, hoist and body structural
components shall have a calculated design stress such that the yield point of the materials used
shall not be exceeded by an induced stress caused by the weight of the components plus the
stress due to three times the payload specified in table II imposed on the body floor when the
vehicle body is in any of its attainable elevated positions. The materials used shall meet all
applicable performance requirements specified herein. Alinement shall be maintained under all
operating conditions, without applying stress to any attachment. The hoist subframe longitudinal
members shall be continuous, without splices for the length of the subframe.
