3.4.21 Horn. The manufacturer's standard electric horn shall be furnished.
3.5 Body. The body material, construction, equipment and furnishing shall be as
specified herein. The body shall be custom manufactured as specified, to provide a
self-contained combination mobile blood component processing laboratory and a three-bed
donor facility. The body shall be manufactured in accordance with the highest standards of the
industry. All equipment and furnishings shall be secured to withstand mobile vehicle operations.
Body nominal interior dimensions shall be 26-1/2 feet long by 7-1/2feet wide by 7 feet high.
The body shall provide a comfortable environment for donors and working personnel for
extended periods when the vehicle is parked.
3.5.1 Body mounting. Kiln-dried hardwood or dense southern yellow pine bed pieces
shall be fitted to the top surface of the chassis frame and counter-bored as required to
accommodate any chassis frame rivets and to give uniform load distribution over the vehicle
frame. The hardwood bed pieces shall be capped with high-tensile steel 4-inch channel along the
full length of the longitudinal chassis frame members. Evenly spaced, threaded "U" bolts, with
tie bars and captive nuts, shall secure the body, steel channel and bed pieces to the chassis frame.
3.5.2 Framing and exterior. The body and roof framing shall be constructed of
aluminum extrusions of nominal 0.125 inch thickness or not less than 1-3/4 inch square tubular
high-tensile steel. Body framing shall be braced at all points of stress. The exterior sides, ends
and roof shall be covered with aluminum alloy. Where steel framing is used, side posts may be
of 1-1/2 inch square tubular high-tensile steel. Body and floor frame members shall be installed
on nominal 16-inch centers. Door and window frames shall be reinforced and gusseted to
prevent torsional twisting. Supports and reinforcements shall be provided for the installation of
cabinets, lights and equipment. Metal tapping plates shall be installed between members to
secure wall mounted equipment. Three-quarter inch thick plywood tapping plates shall be
installed in the ceiling to positively secure fluorescent light fixtures. The body structure shall be
capable of resisting all generally and locally applied loads resulting from normal intended usage
without excessive deflection, cracking, permanent deformation, loosening of joints, or premature
fatigue failure. Where aluminum and steel surfaces come into contact, effective means shall be
provided to preclude electolytic action.
3.5.2.1 Exterior panels. The exterior side, end and roof panels shall be constructed of
aluminum sheets of an alloy and thickness adequate to provide the required strength. The side
and end panels shall be not less than 0.050 inch thick. The exterior body panels shall be all
