reflectance of MIL-E-52798 or MIL-E-52835, and informational markings shall be located as
follows:
(a) Safety and instructional markings. Markings such as tire pressure, fuel type, fill level of
liquids, towing, lifting, tiedown and center of gravity shall be black lusterless letters or numerals
no larger than one inch.
(b) Concealed marking. When specified (see 6.2), concealed marking shall consist of the
registration number only, and shall be applied as specified in 4.3 of MIL-STD-642.
(c) Vehicles supplied to foreign nations. When specified (see 6.2), vehicles supplied to
foreign nations, temporary registration numbers shall be furnished as specified in 4.4 of
MIL-STD-642.
3.1.1.1.3 Data plates and warranty notice. Instruction, caution, identification, military model
designator and National Stock Number (NSN), operating and data plates shall be furnished and
installed. The plates shall be in accordance with Type III, Composition A or Composition C of
MIL-P-514, or standard commercial practice. When foil is employed for Composition C, the
plate shall be in accordance with Type I, Class I of GG-P-455. Foil shall not be used for exterior
plates. Vehicle data plates and warranty notice shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1223.
3.1.1.2 Rustproofing. Vehicle shall be rustproofed in accordance with MIL-STD-1223.
Undercoating is not acceptable. In addition, all chassis frame members, enclosed areas, boxed-in
areas, such as lights and under floor pan, and the vehicle cab shall be rustproofed. The material
may be applied by using an atomized spray, pressure gun or brush. Metal surfaces shall be
cleaned prior to the application of rustproofing. Dissimilar metals shall be installed as specified
in 5.8 and Table IX of MIL-STD-193. Certified test report shall be furnished to the engineering
office of the procuring activity.
3.1.1.3 Heavy duty cooling system. Heavy duty cooling system shall be furnished. The
cooling system shall maintain the coolant at a temperature below the boiling point, with the
vehicle loaded to the rated GVWR and operated at sea level, and in an ambient air temperature of
not less than 125F. Cooling system radiator shall be of at least 1400 square inches and of
sufficient depth to meet the cooling requirements specified. Certify that the cooling system is
matched and rated in conjunction with interfacing components.
