3.5.7.1 Operating (side) windows. The sash for side windows shall be approximately
21 inches wide and 24 inches high, with double-pane glazing, hinged at the top, and with
regulators to permit selection of fixed positions. Each side window shall be set in an all-metal
frame, sealed to exclude air and moisture. All window frames shall have sufficient strength to
support any body side post cut during installation. An insect screen as specified in 3.5.7.1.3 shall
be provided inside each side window.
3.5.7.1.1 Double panes. Each window shall have two panes of safety window glass. Panes
shall be assembled in the sash frame, including air space of not less than 3/16 inch, shall be
sealed to exclude moisture, condensation or frost, and shall withstand altitude changes from sea
level to 10,000 feet above sea level.
3.5.7.1.2 Window regulators. Each side window shall have a regulator operable from within
the van body, to provide opening positions for at least 22-1/2 and 45 degrees. Cranking,
telescoping, or folding window regulators to minimize the projection within the van shall be
furnished.
3.5.7.1.3 Insect screens. Each side window shall be furnished with an inside insect screen
fitted in the window opening. The wire cloth shall be 16 mesh.
3.5.8 Double rear doors. The body shall be provided with a main door and an auxiliary door
at the rear. The rear doors shall be side hung on heavy duty, strap type hinges, to provide a clear
opening width of not less than 52 inches. A door check shall be provided on each door, arranged
to hold the door at 115-degree and 180-degree open positions. Each rear door shall be equipped
with a fixed type window measuring not less than 10 inches wide and 10 inches high,
permanently set in frames, centered in the upper portion of the door. Glazing shall be of
double-pane construction, as specified in 3.5.7.1.1.
3.5.8.1 Main rear doors. The main rear door shall be located on the curb (right) side and
shall provide an opening of not less than 32 inches wide and 72 inches high. An operating
mechanism for the main door shall include slide bolts of ceiling and floor-wedge type, a center
case, and inside and outside handles. A means for locking the main door from the outside shall
be furnished.
3.5.8.2 Auxiliary rear door. The auxiliary rear door shall be located on the street (left) side
and shall provide an opening of not less than 20 inches wide and 72 inches high. Locking bolts
shall be provided at the top and bottom and shall be operable only from the inside of the body.
3.5.9 Electrical system. Each vehicle body shall be provided with separate 12-volt dc and
120-volt ac systems for interior electrical devices and power connections. The cable and conduit
required for electrical devices inside the body shall be installed inside the side and roof panels to
