manually extendable width-wise to accommodate a wide variety of vehicles. The wheel restraint
shall be manually extendable to accommodate various tire sizes. Safety tiedown straps or chains
shall be provided for each wheel restraint to secure the towed vehicle to the wheel-lift. The
wheel-lift shall be furnished with a welded steel heavy duty frame designed exclusively for the
wheel-lift. The wheel-lift shall be self-stowing beneath the body or recessed into the backplate,
without interfering with use of the tow hitch. The tow bar shall pivot sufficiently to allow the
wrecker to make a 90-degree turn with a vehicle in tow. The wheel-lift shall conform to table XII
for the corresponding vehicle size. Lifting and towing capacity shall be with the wheel-lift
extended to the position specified in table XII. Extended position shall be measured from the
backplate to the centerline of the wheels of a subcompact automobile in place on the wheel
restraints. Retracted position shall be measured from the backplate to the rearmost part of the
wheel-lift. Size 20T and 25T wheel-lifts shall include frame lift forks and adapters.

3.5.13 Accessories. The following accessories shall be provided:
(a) Two snatch blocks with hooks for double reeving. For single winch vehicles, only one
snatch block is required
(b) Universal steering wheel clamp
(c) Except for size 5T, a telescoping tow hitch, with rated capacity not less than wrecker
GVW. Two tow chains of high-test, coil grade, bright zinc steel with a J-hook on one
end and a T-hook and a grab hook on the other end; 11 mm by 2130 mm (7/16 inch by
7 feet) in length for size 7T wreckers, 16 mm by 2440 mm (5/8 inch by 8 feet ) in length,
for all other sizes; all conforming to SAE Jl142. Crossbeams and spacer blocks in
accordance with SAE Jl142 shall also be provided
(d) Two scotch blocks with chains
(e) Two 8 mm (5/16-inch) high-test steel safety chains for size 5T and 7T wreckers, and two
16 mm (5/8-inch) high-test steel safety chains for all other sizes, each with a bright zinc
finish, each 3.66 m (12 feet) long, with a clevis at one end for attaching the chain to an
eye on the boom and a grab hook with spring-loaded safety latch on the other end for
attaching the chain to a vehicle being towed
